Gilles Knaepen is a Belgian designer. His work is guided by the idea that an object can have presence without demanding attention.

Rather than treating simplicity as an end in itself, he looks for depth in restrained forms allowing proportion, material and interaction to shape the character of an object.Projects may begin with a story, an observation, a practical question or simply a form worth pursuing and are gradually reduced until the different elements feel seamlessly connected.

He aims for objects that settle naturally into their surroundings, while leaving something to discover through use, touch or closer attention.
